This effect starts by placing a bet or prize inside a metal box and locking it. The correct key is then mixed in with 4 identical other keys. A variety of spectators are then allowed to freely select any key, leaving the last one for you. They can even exchange the keys if they don't like their decision.

This is a solid effect and will go immediately into my programs. The box is well built, it can be fully examined, and looks like a standard lockbox. The technique is easy, and able to preform within a few minutes of practice. With the right patter this can be a show stealer.
Works for any type of routine (Mentalism, close up, parlor, etc.).

I've created several '7 Keys' style routines over the years.

One of the stories uses a locked box; I've used a small padlock on a wooden box with the original '7 Keys' set which works okay.

Drawback: It uses only five keys.

Benefits: The 'Safe Box' looks modern, and it is easier to pack and carry. Plus, the method is bulletproof, just like the original '7 Keys' set.

I look forward to using this when "live" shows return!

  • Serh asks: Is this similar to the wooden box version they put out several years ago?

    • 1. Jim answers: This is similar but an all new design and construction with a lock system engineered from the ground up. You can cause it to open or not open at any time with any key. It has undergone extensive testing and is very sturdy and very reliable. In addition, it now has a slot to insert the keys into the box which allows for a second style of routine.

  • Gary asks: Can additional keys to used ? To make it, say a total of ten (or less, a total of 8)... would the final key still open it? Or would it still be the fifth key tried ? Can you provide the additional keys (for an additional charge) so that all the keys match? Gary

    • 1. Jim answers: You can order additional keys from Bazar De Magia and use as many as you like. You can configure your routine so the box will open at the 1st, 5th, 9th, 10th or any other key.
