The Magic of Jonathan Friedman: The Musical The Magic of Jonathan Friedman: The Musical The Magic of Jonathan Friedman: The Musical The Magic of Jonathan Friedman: The Musical

Jonathan Friedman is as strong of a writer as he is a magician. And his background is an even split between magic and music. He has combined these passions for this sensational new book, The Magic of Jonathan Friedman: The Musical. Jonathan delivers 24 fully-fleshed out close-up routines using cards, coins, guitar picks (because of course), dollar bills, plastic bags, billets, and more. The material is all original and practical, making it suitable for modern close-up performers.

Jonathan sees magic and the world through the prism of music, so his writing and theory is influenced heavily by the music and musical artists he loves. But you don't have to be a music lover to appreciate the creativity behind his magic. While some of the presentations are themed around music, the concepts and effects go way beyond that. You'll learn 24 effects, including:

Edge: three guitar picks are balanced on top of each other in an impossible feat of skill.

So Punk Rock: a multi-phased routine with the card box, including an amazing ending where a spectator's drawing vanishes from the back of a card and appears on the card box, underneath the cellophane.

The Freshest Coin Transpo in the World: a two-phased copper/silver transpo where one coin is inserted in a plastic baggie. It's as original as it is practical.

The Chewing Gum Incident of 2017: Some chewing gum and its paper wrapper go through a series of magical transpositions!

Card Tricks Suck: an usual presentation for the Ambitious Card with a wild ending; the spectator's selection gets sucked up through a straw!

In Clenched Fist: a four-phased coin through hand routine that all the cool kids, and magic rockstars, will end up doing.

Friedman is a mix of Paul Harris, Allan Ackerman, Jay Sankey, and Elvis Costello rolled into one. The combination is a beautiful one, and the material itself is housed in a gorgeous, hardbound, full-color production numbering over 200 pages. Above all, The Magic of Jonathan Friedman: The Musical is a fun, funny read that will equip you with 24, practical close-up routines that are easy to do and high on impact.

206 pages, full-color hardback. Each copy comes with a custom, signed guitar pick.

One of the best books published by Vanishing Inc. Jonathan’s thinking is totally out of the box, new concepts and ideas, plus a great deal of awesome scripting and routining. Music is such an universal language, so the material taught is this book will work for lots of audiences. Very well written, great photos, and the book itself will look great in any magic library. Don’t hesitate in giving this a try.

I have been so inspired by this book to mix my passions and magic. This book contains great routines. Some of which you could change the script to suit your character. The theme is music scripts but only a handful of the routines need music-based scripts to make sense and work.

All I am able to say is wow. What a way to combine your passions with magic. This inspired me to create a trick with broadway. This is a must-read. I'm usually not a fan of magic books since they sound just like textbooks and continue to drone on. This is the exact opposite. Every time you turn the page you will get excited.

As a musician and a magician, this book was perfect for developing a musically-influenced magic set for a recent gig. It's got a nice blend of card magic, coin magic, mentalism, and magic with found items. The ideas are clever and I've gotten great responses from them. Two of the card tricks in this book have become my "go tos" for when I'm with friends or at gatherings when people ask me to do magic. Get this book now!

Jonathan's book is creative and fresh, with effects that feel familiar but are great twists and will have you thinking in new directions. This is a hidden gem, and highly recommended if you're looking for something "a little different."

I love books that pushes your creativity to the limit. They make you think in different ways and see how fun magic can be. It's not just about the card at any numbers and the magician foolers. When I picked up the Musical I instantly felt I could use the routines there. They are just super fun, audience loves it and so creative that allows you to have fun while doing it. You will truly enjoy this book. I did it. And I highly recommend.

If you're a fan of Paul Harris, or Jay Sankey, you'll dig this book. Friedman is very creative, and fun to read. I think it would be difficult to read this book and not finish inspired.
