In the rarest of cases, a mindreading effect is created that so perfectly mimics the real thing that the trick doesn't just fool us...it appears that the demonstration is real. That's the case with "Dead Lock." A complete sellout at the 2019 Blackpool Convention, this trick has been impossible to keep in stock, until now.

The premise is as simple as it is unique: you hand someone a combination lock and explain that the combination to your lock is known only to you. The spectator is invited to put in various sequences of numbers to try to unlock it. They will fail. It is genuinely locked and no number of attempts will unlock it. The performer explains that the combination is a meaningful date of the year. The spectator is invited to think of any date – her birthday, her anniversary, a random day plucked from her imagination--and when she tries this thought-of date, the lock works.

You, the performer, never touch the lock. There is NO secret magnet switch. There are NO electronics. The lock is TOTALLY EXAMINABLE at all times. The very, very subtle workings of the lock are automatic and built into the fabric of the routine. It's angle-proof and can be performed for someone within minutes of opening "Dead Lock."

This very special package comes with everything you need. For your convenience, there are two different styles to choose from: European/World or American.

The American style allows a spectator to enter a date as: Month then Day OR Year

The European/World style allows a spectator to enter a date as: Day then Month OR Year

The best lock for magicians I've come across. I appreciate how it looks just like a lock you could buy at the store. The ability to customize it to your use case and the support in the online community sets this tool apart.

I remember purchasing this trick years ago when I was in Highschool and unfortunately it's one of the tricks in my collection that may never see the light of day. Mentalism wasn't ever my thing and when you have a gimmicked lock that opens based on the number configuration of certain digits you'll think it would have been much better had the just released a lock that opens on command through Bluetooth.

My two cents, for the price paid you just ended up buying an expensive lock that someone could have an easier time unlocking than a standard one.

I love this! I’m based in the UK and I have a medium world (uk) and a small US version.

Tbh, even if you’re in the UK, the US version is absolutely fine! I use the small US one as my EDC and walk around, and the medium sized UK version for parlour shows so it’s more visible.

Don’t threat if only the US version is available, laymen simply don’t care, get the date first then the month and you’re good to go.

Combine this with a great presentation and this effect is unstoppable. However if you are bad with presentation spectators may be able to catch on slightly to what is going on. Which happened to me....twice. So if you are a very involved performer this is great. If you like to hit them and move quickly onto something else, this may not be for you.

This is superb. The concept is simple but diabolical. There are two routines provided, but the possibilities are limited only by your imagination. You often see reviews comment that a trick is the “one thing I never leave home without”. This could likely become that for you — just put it on your keychain and you’re ready to perform anytime, anywhere. What’s so great about this is it is so easy to perform (there’s really nothing you even have to do with the gimmick other than hand it to the spectator) so it allows you to get as creative as you want with presentation and try out various forms of mentalism. Perfect entry tool for mentalism!

    • 1. Bill answers: It is true there are 10,000 possible combinations. Since each wheel has numbers 1-0 (10) each, then 10x10x10x10=10,000. So you plant the idea of 10,000 possible combinations, but limit them to a day and month.

    • 1. Blazej answers: T.U.R.N. Can be opened by ANY number, but it is not 100% hands off, and the padlock is not common in Europe. However I still personally use it because I need to have any number to open it.

  • Charles asks: Follow-up question to one asked previously about how Deadlock differs from Patrick Page's Patlock. Regardless of who makes it, does it work in a different way -- i.e., does the mechanism of the lock itself -- the way it works --differ from the Patlock. Or is it virtually identical, functionally, differing only in the presentation.

    • 1. Michael answers: The original Dead Lock Euro version is gimmicked in a different way to the Patlock meaning that you couldn't perform the Patlock routine with Dead Lock and visa versa. Also the presentation and handling for the two locks is completely different too, the Patlock uses a year where as the Dead Lock uses a day and a month.

The response is "That is exactly the date I used....0-7-0-7" For me, that is not a good sign, if they don't quality check the trailer. My question goes to the size of the lock? What are the actual dimensions? Does it look like a sturdy combination lock or does it look like a little toy lock that could be pulled apart with a pair of pliers?

        • 2. Michael answers: Ron is incorrect, the participant in the clip DOES say "The seventh of the seventh" and so the performance WAS CORRECT! (Listen again at 4:05). Also the lock used is NOT a Toy Lock that could easily be pulled apart with pliers, this is a very sturdy lock that could be used for the likes of a gym locker.
